just saying that if you have the means to ask an artist for the permission to edit his/her pictures, you should probably do it, just as a sign of respect? someone logged into this community just like you is a LOT easier to approach than a popular musician or the creator of an anime or something like that. it's not that much of a big deal since you did give credit to yuumei anyway, I was just curious.
no, i didnt ask her. i assumed tht if shes aware tht there are fan groups of her work, then she wouldnt mind fanart.
I'm not sure if this falls under the category of fanart though, because technically you used an image that she has the full rights to without asking her for permission and altered it..
I'm not sure if she minds or not.. but I don't think she would really care because people steal her stuff all the time and you did credit her. still though, there is a difference between drawing a character belonging to someone and changing a picture belonging to someone.

no, I don't think it's narrow-minded. I wasn't just talking about drawing either. writing or making crafts etc. is also a way of fanart, there are endless possibilities...
